Biodiversity Festival
On Sunday August 5, 2007, the Biodiversity Festival was held at the Biodiversity
Center of Japan (Ministry of the Environment Nature Conservation Bureau)
in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi prefecture. WIJ opened a booth featuring
a fishing game and a seaweed and seagrass postcard activity.
In the fishing game, a variety of river fish species made of paper and
clips are caught using magnetic fishing poles. Points are awarded for each
fish caught, but none for invasive fish species. The fishing game was a
great success, attracting almost 250 participants. Some participants, of
all ages came back for another round!
The seaweed and seagrass postcard activity was also immensely popular!
People created their own one-of-a-kind postcards using a variety of seaweed
and seagrass rubber stamps. Colourful landscapes of seaweed and seagrass
made by children filled the booth.

A corner of the booth was also reserved to let visitors touch real seaweed and seagrass, and learn about the differences between seaweed and seagrass by looking at their cross-sections under a microscope.
Our heartfelt thanks to all who took part!
