The Wise Use Workshop in Kushiro-shitsugen and Akan-ko was held on Friday, July 27, 2007. Approximately 30 people participated in lively discussion.

In Session I, the differences between wise use practices in Kushiro-shitsugen and Akan-ko were clarified through presentations on tourism practices given by Mr. Shio and Mr. Kurane. Videos on the fishing industry in each site were then played.

In Session II, participants gathered around in a circle to exchange views on the similarities and differences between the wise use of Kushiro-shitsugen and Akan-ko. Associate professor Motokazu Ando from the Tokyo University of Agriculture commented, “The uniqueness of Kushiro-shitsugen should be further clarified.”
